LANSING (July 25, 2023) — The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) today released the following statement in response to the Economic Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding signed today between Michigan and Ontario.

The historic agreement between Michigan and Ontario signed today further underscores the importance of manufacturing to both sides of the border. This particular corridor is vitally important to the Michigan manufacturing base, which represents much of the more than $80 billion in annual two-way trade and we’re pleased to see Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Premier Doug Ford double down on their support for the region’s manufacturers.

The new Economic Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will spur initiatives to propel the future of the mobility industry as well as the many other manufacturing subsectors that make up our diverse industry. The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) is proud to serve as a constant, vigilant beacon for one of the world’s most innovative, inventive and industrious business sectors on the planet and we look forward to our continued work with policymakers in Michigan and Ontario to build the global strength and reach of Michigan’s manufacturers
