MMA Advocates for Long-Term Talent Funding

This program, designed and implemented by Governor Snyder’s administration, has provided $72.9 million in competitive awards to more than 2,000 Michigan companies for short-term training that enhances talent, productivity and employment retention to increase the quality and competitiveness of Michigan’s employers and talent pool.

Now as Governor Snyder’s term in office comes to a close, MMA is working to ensure that this valuable program lives on into the future. This week, legislation will be introduced in the Michigan Senate to codify the Skilled Trades Training Fund, renaming it the Going Pro Talent Program. Most importantly, the bill expands the time frame in which training may be conducted from a window of a just few months to a window of one year. More detailed information about the changes included in the bill can be found here.

“The bill will be formally introduced on Tuesday, 4/17/18 as Senate Bill 946 (Sen. Ken Horn, R-Frankenmuth) and the Senate Economic Development and International Investment Committee will hold a hearing on the legislation on Thursday, 4/19/18,” said Delaney McKinley, MMA senior director of government affairs and membership. “We encourage you to reach out to your Senator to express your company’s support for the program and for SB 946.”
