MMA Testifies On Comprehensive Solution to UI Woes

MMA-supported legislation to incorporate the recommendations of the House Oversight Committee Workgroup on Unemployment Insurance Fraud is expected to be voted on during the 11/8/17 House session.

House Bills 5165-5172 will address the top concerns of MMA members – specifically preventing imposter claims, establishing a process for reporting imposter claims and improving the Section 20(a) Employer Noncompliance Determination process.

“We commend Representative Graves and Representative Hertel for a balanced, solution-oriented approach to improving Michigan’s employer-financed unemployment system,” says Delaney McKinley, MMA senior director of government affairs and membership.

The House Oversight Committee passed the bills on 11/2/17 and it is anticipated that the legislation will be passed into law by the end of the year. MMA will continue to keep you updated with developments on the UI fraud legislation and UIA system improvements.
