MMA Drives Comprehensive Solution to UI Woes

New legislation will be introduced 10/19/17 to incorporate the recommendations of the House Oversight Committee Workgroup on Unemployment Insurance Fraud, to which MMA was appointed by Speaker Tom Leonard.

As previously reported, the legislative package will address the top concerns of MMA members – specifically preventing imposter claims, establishing a process for reporting imposter claims and improving the Section 20(a) Employer Noncompliance Determination process.

Bill introduction will occur following a press conference on Thursday, 10/19/17, featuring Representative Joe Graves and Representative Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) and members of the workgroup including MMA’s Delaney McKinley. The bills will be considered by the House Oversight Committee on Thursday, 10/26/17 and it is anticipated that the legislation will be acted upon quickly by the Legislature and passed into law by the end of the year.

MMA will continue to keep you updated with developments on the UI fraud legislation and UIA system improvements.
